Abstract

This community service activity is motivated by the condition of the community in Jember Regency, which is vulnerable to hoax information, while the activity partner, the professional journalist organization IJTI Tapal Kuda, needs collaborators to produce local news that continuously educates the public. On the other hand, the target group of the service, students of Islamic Broadcasting and Communication (KPI) at Nurul Jadid University, faces a gap between academic theory and direct field practice. Therefore, this program aims to improve students' journalistic competence and public information literacy through YouTube-based television news production. This activity uses the Participatory Action Research (PAR) community service method, involving partners, lecturers, and students in program planning, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the community service indicate the success of the program based on several indicators: (1) an increase in participants' basic journalistic competencies; (2) an improvement in television news production skills, ranging from field reporting, videography, to video editing; (3) an enhancement in news anchor abilities through voice-over and hosting practices; and (4) the provision of credible local news for the community. This community service concludes that collaboration between universities, journalist organizations, and digital platforms can create an applicable learning ecosystem that directly impacts the strengthening of public information literacy.
